(...) Iwo Birkenmajer puts in painting his poetic visions, thus creating pictures fascinating with their contents and colors. He can reflect in human figures their weaknesses and comic traits, which are often timidly hidden under the mask of pretence. (...) The surrealistic presentation of the reality in Iwo's paintings and drawings evokes musings over the passing time.

According to Jerzy Feiner, who is in charge of the gallery Temporary Contemporary, Iwo Birkenmajer is a great visionary and a keen observer who also notices the invisible. These features underlie The Spiritual Landscapes and The Non-Existing and Perhaps Existing Cities.

Man entangled in metaphysical spheres is introduced by the artist into the orbits of his own perceptions. His pictures abound in symbols and as far as his workshop is concerned they are full of strong contrasts, both in the surface and in the facture treatment. The author achieves them through the use of gilding, metal foils, laserings and a whole spectrum of tones, half-tones and luminous colors.
